After Your Root Canal
We recommend taking pain
medication within one hour of leaving our office, before the anesthetics
subside We recommend Advil or Motrin (ibuprofen) 400-600mg, Tylenol
(acetaminophen) 1000mg, or prescription pain medication from the treating
doctor. Aspirin is not advisable, as it tends to increase bleeding in the area
of treatment.
Teeth that have had root
canal treatment are at more risk to fracture or split. Try to chew on the
opposite side of the mouth until a crown is placed or the tooth is permanentaly
restored. It is not uncommon for the tooth to be uncomfortable to bite, feel
loose, or ache after root canal treatment. These symptoms should gradually
improve within a few days or week.
